Garment Labels

Whether you’re looking to print on cotton shirts, sportswear, home furniture, towels, or soft furnishing labels, we have the right printing solution.

Textile labels are typically exposed to very high levels of duress throughout the life cycle of the products they are attached to, including clothing, household linens, specific automotive applications, and more

Clothing labels made of textile materials contain important information for the care of the products to which they are sewn or adhered to and sometimes also for identification and traceability. Such data must remain perfectly legible for manufacturing, marketing, or the end-user.

Care symbols

Care symbols have been developed to provide information on labels about the maximum permitted treatment and the proper care of textiles. At a minimum, every apparel item that needs to be laundered requires Textile care and recommendations represented by four symbols.

These symbols must appear in this specific order:

  • Washing
  • Bleaching
  • Drying
  • Ironing

To harmonize textile labeling, the international association GINETEX (created in 1963) promotes the uniform use of specific symbols to avoid any misinterpretation of care instructions. Therefore, GINETEX has introduced symbols that can be understood in all countries and languages. These GINETEX symbols are the basis of the international standard EN ISO 3758.

Product safety – OEKO-TEX® standard 100

The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certifies that the textile product does not contain any harmful substances to humans. It is one of the world’s best-known textile regulations and is a guarantee of consumer confidence.

There are several Product classes within this standard between product class I, the most sensitive textile product like baby toys and underwear – and class IV, for Furnishing and decorative materials.

Ribbon users have a safe solution using ATX 1, ATX 7 and ATX 9 Thermal Transfer ribbon from ARMOR-IIMAK, which is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 class I certified.

Garment labels regulations

According to the US FTC (Federal Trade Commission), most textile and wool products have textile labeling requirements. The following information must appear on the garment label:

  • Product composition
  • Country of origin
  • Care symbols
  • Identity of the manufacturer
Care symbols

In Europe, the textile labeling regulation is applied to all textile products sold on the EU market. However, the requirements may differ from those of the FTC regulation, e.g., “countries” are not mandatory to be handled on cloth labels in the EU.

These regulations are strict, and the contents of textile labels must be relevant to help the consumer purchase and remain legible throughout the product’s entire life cycle.

Why using thermal transfer technology for this application ?

Thermal Transfer technology for textile labelling

Textile labels are flexible and have rough materials, making the ink more difficult to adhere to the label. Thermal Transfer printing is made explicitly for printing labels regardless of their composition (paper, synthetics, or textile. Among the wide variety available specific thermal ribbons are dedicated to print on textile labels.

Also, this technology is one of the most commonly used for clothes tag printing because it answers several needs:

  • Print on smooth or rough surfaces
  • Suitable for short, medium, and large quantities
  • Possibility to print variable data
  • One or two side printing

Certain thermal transfer printers and ribbons have been developed to meet particular durability requirements.

Textile products and their care labels endure severe external stress linked to their usage and the intense and repetitive cleaning processes throughout their life cycle.

  • Washing (water, detergents, softeners, abrasion)
  • Drying (high temperature, abrasion)
  • Ironing (high temperature, humidity, abrasion)
  • Dry cleaning

The thermal transfer ribbon solution for your textile label printing needs

We have developed a product specifically formulated to withstand the harsh treatments that an article of clothing encounters during his life. In addition, our resin ribbon conserves the readability of textile labels, ensuring performance throughout its lifecycle.

The ATX 1, ATX 7 and ATX 9 are an ideal thermal ribbon for this type of labeling because it properly resists the cleaning processes that garments and textile items incur. With this thermal ribbon, labels remain perfectly legible despite repeated aggressions, and ATX 1 and ATX 7 and ATX 9 can provide resistance to rubbing, sweating, and UV exposure.

Furthermore, you can trust that your logos and barcodes will be printed adequately with our resin thermal transfer ribbon products, accurate identification, traceability, blackness, and sharpness.
